There is a Season for Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1-22

I. Everything has its own time (vv.1-8)

Each and everything has its own time, at different times, bad or good times. The facts are mentioned and they are as follows:

  1. time for birth and the time for death,
  2. the time for planting and the time for pulling up,
  3. the time for killing and the time for healing,
  4. the time for tearing down and the time for building,
  5. the time for sorrow and the time for joy,
  6. the time for mourning and the time for dancing,
  7. the time for making love and the time for not making love,
  8. the time for kissing and the time for not kissing.
  9. He sets the time for finding and the time for losing,
  10. the time for saving and the time for throwing away,
  11. the time for tearing and the time for mending,
  12. the time for silence and the time for talk,
  13. the time for love and the time for hate,
  14. the time for war and the time for peace.

II. Everything is not permanent

  1. We are in a world of disposables
  2. Everything perishes
  3. They are out of man’s power
  4. Their impermanence bring vanity

Ecc 1:2  It is useless, useless, said the Philosopher. Life is useless, all useless. Ecc 1:3  You spend your life working, laboring, and what do you have to show for it? Ecc 1:4  Generations come and generations go, but the world stays just the same. Ecc 3:9  What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth? Ecc 3:10  I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

III. Everything serves the purpose of God

  • No man can alter what God has designed

Ecc 3:14 I know that everything God does will last forever. You can’t add anything to it or take anything away from it. And one thing God does is to make us stand in awe of him. Ecc 3:15 Whatever happens or can happen has already happened before. God makes the same thing happen again and again. Ecc 3:16 In addition, I have also noticed that in this world you find wickedness where justice and right ought to be. Ecc 3:17 I told myself, “God is going to judge the righteous and the evil alike, because everything, every action, will happen at its own set time.” Ecc 3:18 I decided that God is testing us, to show us that we are no better than animals.

IV. That human may find happiness in what he does.

Ecc 3:22  So I realized then that the best thing we can do is enjoy what we have worked for. There is nothing else we can do. There is no way for us to know what will happen after we die.

  1. Hello and thanks for sharing these words of truth. It is the sincere truth that everything has it’s own set time and when the time comes for such a thing to materialize, nothing can stop it. This is the word of God and His words are ye and amen! This word gives me hope for a brighter and better future.

    • Hello! Barry.

Yes, God has designed everything perfectly in their own time. Meaning, they will certainly come and as you said no one  and nothing can stop.

But we have to be cautious because we can be contributory to it and it may come early than what God has ordained. Let’s say, death.  If God gave you 50 years to live here on earth but you have been so abusive of yourself, it may become 45 years only but it will surely come. This is one of the messages that are so richly entwined in the chapters. We should live responsibly not only for ourselves but also for others.

God also has reserved good things for everyone to be happy so we can be assured that will come when we are feeling lonely, and sorrowful.

  2. Thank you for this inspirational message of hope. There really is a season for everything.

My feeling is that seasons may come and seasons may go, but having something you love to do is such a good antidote for depression which often hits people at this time of the year.

Families are often apart which makes it hard for them to really enjoy the Spirit of Christmas. May they have the comfort of knowing that it is just for a season.

    • Broken families, families physically weak, families with depression are some of the situations that may lead to a somewhat sad Christmas celebration but the promise of the text is that every situation is not absolutely the final, there will come a time that the sadness can be changed to happiness or joy.

  3. Hey there! Thanks for sharing these power messages of encouragement from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You have helped me to see and understand that things happen for a reason according to God’s plan and will. Sometimes this conflicts with out own agendas and we must wait to see his ultimate plan unfold for us. For instance, I couldn’t get a job and I thought that it was the worst thing but then found out that he wanted me to be able to stay home and raise my daughter. Things were tight but what I’ve been able to do for my daughter is build her a solid foundation that a lot of children don’t get to experience.

    Thanks again!

    • Right Marlinda, your role today is not and will always be. That son will pass but you haven’t missed the opportunity to be a part of the character development of your own child.

If you missed the opportunity to work God may have prepared something that takes and completes what you need in the family.
